The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor is seeking a skilled Bilingual Spanish Translator/Interpreter to support its Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) in combating drug trafficking and money laundering in New York City.
🔍 Job Overview
The translator/interpreter plays a vital role in providing accurate Spanish language translation and interpretation services essential for the success of SIB's investigations and prosecutions. This position involves working closely with federal, state, and international law enforcement partners.
📝 Responsibilities
- Translate, interpret, and transcribe Spanish-recorded communications accurately and promptly.
- Testify before grand juries and at trial when necessary with professionalism and precision.
- Identify, translate, and interpret Spanish-language evidence from cellular phones and other devices.
- Provide simultaneous interpretation during proffers, debriefings, and meetings with Spanish-speaking defendants, witnesses, informants, and other stakeholders.
- Perform additional translation and interpretation duties as needed.
🎯 Qualifications & Requirements
- Fluent in English and Spanish (both written and oral); Native fluency preferred.
- Experience with a wide range of accents, slang, and colloquial expressions in Spanish.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to meet deadlines even under pressure.
- Organized with quick response capabilities.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
- Discretion and adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional translation/interpretation experience.

- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in translation and interpretation (not mandatory).
- Court interpreter certification or comparable experience.
- Experience with legal terminology.
- Proficiency assessment test will be conducted.
