Join Our Team as a Temporary Assigned Bilingual Education Teacher! 🌍👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Bilingual Education Teacher to support our PreK-3 students, with a preference for candidates fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese and endorsed in ESL.

Position: Temporary Assigned Teacher (PreK-3, ESL endorsed, Mandarin / Cantonese preferred)

Class Title: Bilingual Education Teacher

Characteristics of the Class 📝

Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for providing instruction, specialized services, and support to students. The goal is to develop students’ ability to effectively perform courses of study in English, manage classroom discipline, and perform related duties as required.

Essential Functions 🎯

  • Instructional Planning: Develop lesson plans and prepare instructional materials aligned with Chicago Public Schools’ policies, Illinois Learning Standards, and legal requirements. Administer tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language ability.
  • Student Progress & Assessment: Monitor and evaluate students' progress, expectations, and goals within the bilingual program. Use appropriate instructional techniques to help limited English proficient students overcome participation barriers.
  • Classroom Management & Environment: Set positive learning expectations, evaluate student progress, and maintain accurate records of achievements. Apply contemporary teaching methods, utilize diverse instructional materials, and create interest areas reflecting students’ work.
  • Curriculum & Instruction: Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum content, participate in programs to improve attendance, and promote anti-vandalism initiatives. Establish and uphold responsible rules of conduct aligned with CPS policies across the school grounds.
  • Record Keeping & Communication: Maintain attendance and seating charts, encourage self-discipline, and foster positive self-concepts. Engage in conferences with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress, attendance, and conduct. Communicate effectively and provide counseling when needed.
  • Professional Development & Extra-curricular Activities: Attend staff meetings, participate in professional in-service training, coordinate class field trips, and contribute to after-school activities using community resources.

Minimum Qualifications 🎓

Education & Experience

Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and relevant coursework to obtain an Illinois State Board of Education teaching license.

Licensure Requirements ✅

Must hold an Illinois State Board of Education-issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement appropriate for the grade level proficiency being taught.

  • Understanding of contemporary teaching principles, classroom, and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.

  • Proficiency in applying current educational principles and practices.
