Looking for a highly skilled Tax Manager with Japanese language proficiency to join our team and lead client tax engagements effectively.

Tax Manager - Japanese Required 🌏💼

Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week) / Exempt

Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000

Position Description 📄

The Tax Manager is responsible for preparing tax returns, tax provisions, transfer pricing, and providing tax consultation services to clients. As a key member of the engagement team, you'll often be the primary point of contact for clients, working closely with them to develop strategic tax policies and transactions. You will also lead internal and external training sessions to promote the professional development of tax staff and senior accountants.

Responsibilities 🎯

  • Review complex tax returns: Corporate, dual-status, expatriate individuals, partnerships, applying accounting expertise and tax laws/regulations.
  • Communicate with tax authorities: Review taxpayer letters to federal and state taxing jurisdictions and directly interact with tax auditors on behalf of clients.
  • Research & interpret laws: Analyze complex tax issues from client transactions, audits, and filings, providing feedback on research conducted by team members.
  • Transfer pricing: Review, analyze, and prepare complex transfer pricing studies.
  • Tax provisions: Review and prepare tax provisions for financial statements.
  • Client engagement: Lead meetings, respond effectively to client requests, and provide strategic tax advice to enhance satisfaction.
  • Main client contact: Ensure client satisfaction and identify opportunities for additional services.
  • Effective communication: Build business relationships through clear oral and written communication.
  • Tax knowledge: Maintain a broad and current understanding of tax concepts, pursuing specialized knowledge.
  • Project management: Handle multiple tax engagements, managing personal and team workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Team development: Foster respectful, collaborative relationships, train and coach staff and seniors, and evaluate their performance.
  • Technology oversight: Monitor and promote effective use of engagement technologies.

Qualifications 🎓

  • Educational background: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant tax concentration from an accredited institution.
  • Licensing: CPA or EA license required.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in tax services within a public accounting firm.
  • Tax return experience: Preparing individual, business, benefit funds, real estate, and exemption organization returns.
  • Leadership experience: Prior Tax Manager experience is a plus.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in tax accounting software, Excel, and Word.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills.
  • Language proficiency: Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese (dual proficiency required).
  • Attention to detail & multitasking: Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
