Substitute Language Translator – English/Vietnamese

Job Summary

The Substitute Language Translator will facilitate oral and written translation of communications, correspondence, and documents between English and Vietnamese. They will serve as an interpreter for meetings, conferences, and various events, offering both written and simultaneous oral translation during County Office of Education meetings and programs. Sites and schedules will vary based on needs. 📝🎤

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Vietnamese, or a designated foreign language.
• Option 2: Associate's degree accompanied by a Translating/Interpreting certificate.
• Option 3: Proof of enrollment in a degree program with at least 48 college semester units and a Translating/Interpreting certificate.
• Experience: At least one year translating and interpreting materials between English and Vietnamese.

Note: Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved agency if educated outside the US. The evaluation must confirm completion of high school and any college degrees. Click here for a list of approved agencies.

Licenses and Other Requirements

• Valid California Class C driver's license 🚗
• Proficiency in English and Vietnamese, confirmed via oral and written exams in Vietnamese

The Public Affairs Division is currently recruiting for the Language Translator - English/Vietnamese role. This on-call, part-time, temporary position involves providing translation services during meetings, conferences, and various programs for the County Office of Education.
