As part of our Continuous Improvement team, you will analyze data, develop implementation plans for process optimization, and execute performance management systems across over 35 plants. Your work will directly impact products from Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan's Famous, and more, ensuring we meet customer and consumer needs efficiently.
The Senior Automation & Controls Engineering Manager will:
- Help define and update the company's long-term technology roadmap.
- Lead a talented team of professionals across hardware, software, engineering, maintenance, and operations.
- Design and develop automation solutions combining controls and process engineering expertise with the latest in automation technology.
Core Responsibilities 🛠️
- Strategic Development: Develop manufacturing vision and a technology roadmap supporting Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with various teams to align strategy and deliver results.
- Technology Leadership: Drive automation technology choices and present growth strategies.
- Process & Machine Learning Integration: Leverage deep engineering knowledge to create scalable controls and manufacturing solutions.
- Business & Technology Alignment: Translate business problems into effective technology solutions.
- Trend Monitoring & Research: Stay abreast of external tech trends, conduct research, and evaluate automation innovations for potential implementation.
- Standard Architecture Development: Create and coordinate standard software/hardware frameworks, collaborating across teams, and interfacing with IT for seamless integration.
- External Partnerships: Collaborate with vendors, universities, and consultants to explore new systems and leverage external expertise.

Qualifications ✅
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited institution, with 8+ years of manufacturing automation experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years in team management, development, or project leadership.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is preferred.
- Experience developing distributed, networked control systems, especially IIoT solutions.
- Expertise in PLC/HMI programming, equipment connectivity, and SCADA systems, particularly within Ignition software.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) is preferred.
- Knowledge of food processing and meat industry principles is a plus.
- Outstanding communication, organizational, teamwork, and analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
