About the Role

As a vital part of TPC, interpreters facilitate accurate and culturally sensitive communication for limited-English speakers across industries such as healthcare, legal, and financial sectors. We offer comprehensive, paid training to launch your career in Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpretation (VRI).

Key Responsibilities 📝

• Provide interpretation services between English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese across various sectors (medical, legal, customer service, etc.)
• Ensure accuracy and neutrality by preserving tone, intent, and emotion in every interpretation
• Maintain confidentiality and objectivity at all times
• Manage call flow professionally and intervene when clarification is needed
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence during high-pressure or emotionally charged interactions
• Use active listening, note-taking, and memory techniques for longer exchanges
• Stay within the interpreter role without offering personal opinions or advice
• Participate in ongoing training and coaching to improve your skills
• Utilize basic computer tools like MS Office and internal platforms for call management and activity logging

Required Qualifications ✅

• High school diploma or equivalent; college preferred
• Fluent in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese with B2+ proficiency or higher
• Ability to pass language and interpreting skills assessments
• At least 6 months of call center, customer service, or interpreting experience
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ethical decision-making
• Ability to handle emotionally complex situations professionally and clearly
• Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and time management
• Assertiveness and session control skills
• Basic computer skills including typing and MS Office proficiency
• A quiet, distraction-free workspace conducive to active listening
• Stable home internet connection (no cellular data hotspots allowed)
• Identity verification: Provide valid, government-issued photo ID during recruitment and training. Without it, disqualification applies.

Preferred Qualifications 🌟

• Certification in medical, legal, or community interpreting (a strong plus)
• Experience with remote work tools/platforms

• Quiet, comfortable, and distraction-free workspace
• Desktop or laptop (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
• Broadband internet (minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload; no cellular hotspot)
• Computer less than 5 years old with a functioning webcam
• Windows 10+ or macOS Big Sur (OS 11)+
