About the Role
At TPC, interpreters play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication for limited-English speakers. Whether assisting during medical appointments or helping clients access vital services, your language expertise directly contributes to real-world outcomes. This structured, call center-style position demands professionalism, speed, and accuracy—embracing complex conversations and nuanced language.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpretation Services: Provide consecutive interpretation between English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese across industries like medical, legal, and customer support.
- Accuracy & Neutrality: Maintain clarity, tone, intent, and emotional neutrality while ensuring confidentiality.
- Call Management: Handle call flow professionally, intervening respectfully for clarification if needed.
- Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrate empathy and emotional control during high-pressure or emotionally charged interactions.
- Memory & Note-Taking: Use active listening, note-taking, and memory skills to manage extended conversations.
- Role Boundaries: Stay within the interpreter role without sharing personal opinions or advice.
- Continuous Improvement: Engage in ongoing training, coaching, and feedback sessions to hone skills.
- Technical Skills: Utilize basic tools like MS Office and internal platforms to log activities and manage calls.

Required Qualifications ✔️
- High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)
- Fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese at B2+ proficiency or higher
- Ability to pass language and interpreting skills assessments
- Minimum of 6 months experience in call centers, customer service, or interpreting
- Strong verbal communication skills and ethical decision-making
- Ability to work professionally in fast-paced, emotionally complex situations
- Excellent time management, integrity, and professional responsibility
- Comfort with assertive communication and session control
- Basic computer skills, including typing and MS Office navigation
- Quiet, distraction-free workspace for active listening
- Stable home internet connection (cable, DSL, or fiber; cellular not permitted)
- Valid government-issued photo ID for verification throughout recruiting and training
