This role offers comprehensive paid training to kickstart your career as an Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreter (VRI), supporting clients across healthcare, legal, and financial sectors. About the Role 🎯

Interpreters at TPC play a crucial role in facilitating accurate and culturally sensitive communication for limited-English speakers. Whether assisting a patient during a medical appointment or helping someone access essential services, your multilingual skills directly contribute to impactful, real-world outcomes.

This structured, call center-style position demands professional-level proficiency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Candidates must interpret complex conversations swiftly and accurately, including idiomatic expressions, specialized terminology, and emotionally nuanced content.

Success relies on active listening, emotional regulation, professionalism, empathy, and adaptability. You will handle live calls, often under pressure, adhering to strict interpretation protocols to ensure neutrality, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities ✅

• Provide interpretation services between English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese across various industries (medical, legal, customer service, etc.)
• Maintain accuracy and neutrality—preserving tone, intent, and emotion
• Uphold confidentiality and impartiality at all times
• Manage call flow professionally and intervene respectfully for clarification
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence during high-pressure or emotionally charged calls
• Use note-taking and active listening techniques to manage longer exchanges
• Stay within the interpreter’s role, avoiding personal opinions or advice
• Participate in ongoing training and coaching to continuously improve
• Utilize basic computer tools (MS Office, internal platforms) to manage calls and log activities

Required Qualifications ✅

• High school diploma or equivalent (college preferred)
• Fluency in English, Fuzhounese, Mandarin, and Cantonese with B2+ proficiency or higher
• Ability to pass language and interpreting assessments
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in call centers, customer service, or interpreting
• Strong verbal communication, ethical judgment, and tri-lingual accuracy
• Ability to work professionally in fast-paced, emotionally complex situations
• Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and time management
• Comfort with assertive communication and session control
• Basic computer skills, including typing and MS Office
• A quiet, distraction-free workspace conducive to active listening
• Stable internet connection (no cellular data or hotspots)
• Valid government-issued photo ID (required for onboarding)

Remote Work Requirements 🏡

• Quiet, comfortable, distraction-free environment
• Desktop or laptop (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
• Broadband internet (minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload)
• Computer no older than 5 years, with a functioning webcam
