About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented legal professional to oversee residential and commercial real estate transactions within our expanding Flushing practice. This role involves managing a high volume of closings, providing sophisticated counsel, and bridging New York property law with the specific needs of our Chinese-speaking clients to ensure a seamless, culturally competent experience. 🌟

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Counsel & Strategy: Represent buyers, sellers, and lenders throughout all stages of real estate transactions, from contract negotiations to closing.
  • Complex Drafting: Draft and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, riders, and complex financing documents.
  • Title Oversight: Review title reports and surveys; resolve complex title issues such as easements, encroachments, and estate-related matters.
  • ACRIS & Regulatory Compliance: Prepare NYC-specific filings like ACRIS, TP-584, and IT-2663, while ensuring adherence to FIRPTA and 1031 Exchange regulations.
  • Bilingual Advocacy: Conduct legal consultations and closings in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, ensuring clients fully understand their legal obligations and risks.
  • Escrow Management: Oversee attorney escrow accounts, ensuring ethical and accurate disbursement of funds in line with NYS IOLA rules.
  • Mentorship: Supervise and guide real estate paralegals and support staff to uphold high standards of service.

Required Qualifications

  • Legal Credentials: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active law license in New York State.
  • Language Mastery: Professional fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is essential. Candidates should be comfortable explaining complex legal concepts in-language.
  • Experience: 3-7 years of focused experience in New York real estate law, covering both residential and commercial sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Flushing real estate market, including new construction condos, mixed-use properties, and Co-op board operations.
  • Communication Skills: Strong negotiation abilities and the capacity to foster and maintain relationships with local brokers, lenders, and opposing counsel.
