Position Overview 📝

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate (Per Diem). In this role, you will support clinical and translational studies within the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (CSTAR). Your responsibilities will include participant recruitment, data collection, specimen handling, study documentation, and contributing to reports and study materials. This role offers a fantastic chance to develop skills in patient-oriented clinical research operations.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations 📋

  • Engage in clinical research data collection, interact with human subjects, and maintain research data (note: this does not include bench science research).
  • Work flexible hours based on study needs, including early mornings (as early as 4:00 a.m.) and evenings (after 6:00 p.m.), with coordination from the research team.
  • Collaborate with full-time Research Associates, Project Managers, and study staff to ensure seamless study operations.
  • Perform procedures in dialysis centers across NYC and occasionally in inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Recruit participants, conduct follow-up visits, and manage data collection via in-person, phone, email, or text.
  • Abstract clinical data from charts and administer behavioral, exercise, or other interventions.
  • Monitor recruitment, retention, and study progress, preparing SOPs and maintaining study documentation.
  • Handle specimen processing, storage, and database management—ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate communication between clinical sites, staff, and research team to maintain protocol adherence.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to protocol development, regulatory submissions, and process improvements.
  • Develop and pilot study instruments, create recruitment materials, and schedule participant visits.
  • Prepare reports, abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for conferences and publications.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and institutional policies regarding safety, confidentiality, and data security.
  • Support quality assurance, inventory management, and grant/budget tracking.
  • Train new Research Associates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in research techniques and study procedures over time.

Research & Laboratory Responsibilities 🔬

  • Once acclimated, train graduate students and fellows in experimental design, techniques, and performance.
  • Generate hypotheses, design experiments, and independently execute multiple studies.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, suggesting protocol modifications as needed.
  • Prepare figures, diagrams, and presentations for scholarly dissemination.
  • Communicate findings, collaborate on research projects, and contribute to scientific literature.
  • Participate in manuscript preparation, grant submission, and revisions, providing valuable scientific input.

Qualifications & Requirements 🎓

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Biomedical or Physical Sciences.
  • Minimum commitment of two years, with potential extension up to three years.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.

Salary & Compensation 💰

The hourly salary range for this role is $25.84 - $34.06. Actual compensation depends on experience, education, and institutional needs. This range does not include bonuses, incentives, or other benefits.
