About the Position
The Stony Brook School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated part-time Online French Teacher to join Gravitas, our online program. This role involves delivering high-quality French instruction across multiple levels, fostering student growth, and contributing to our online community with a strong focus on relational mentorship and professional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Teach 2-4 year-long sections of French, covering levels I through IV.
- Provide clear, engaging, and developmentally appropriate instructions via scheduled synchronous classes (meeting times to be determined).
- Offer office hours and asynchronous support to assist students' progress in a remote environment.
- Support student proficiency, cultural understanding, and disciplined study habits.
- Engage students relationally and professionally to foster a positive online classroom culture.
- Grade assignments, assessments, and projects timely and constructively, providing actionable feedback.
- Meet deadlines for grading, communication, and projects consistently.
- Maintain prompt and professional communication with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Gravitas French curriculum.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff in a feedback-oriented, growth-minded culture.
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and planning as assigned.
- Utilize technology effectively, including Canvas LMS, online tools, video/screencast, and other platforms used for online instruction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in French, French Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
- At least three years of teaching experience.
- Experience teaching within an online or technology-rich learning environment.
- Demonstrable Christian commitment aligned with The Stony Brook School's mission.
- Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment emphasizing faith, scholarship, and character formation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respond promptly and professionally to all stakeholders.
- High energy, strong work ethic, and capacity to engage teenagers effectively online.
- Proficiency with educational technology including Canvas LMS, online tools, and video/screencast creation.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity to serve diverse global students.
- Ability to work collaboratively and foster a transparent, growth-oriented feedback culture.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- Maturity and stability to thrive in a demanding role.
Nice-to-Haves
- Master's degree in French, French Education, or related field.
- Experience teaching multiple French levels, especially I-IV.
