Orange County IHSS Public Authority Is Hiring An Office Clerk I Bilingual
The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority is seeking dedicated individuals to provide exceptional customer service and support in a dynamic office environment, helping serve the community's needs efficiently.
🔹 Job Description & Responsibilities
Definition:
Under supervision, to provide customer service and support to the public, IHSS Recipients, and IHSS Providers through various communication modes such as phone, in-person, or digital channels. This includes completing data entry, reviewing digital databases, guiding clients, and handling routine materials. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
🌟 Example of Duties
- Perform general office duties: compiling information, calculating data, maintaining records and files, sending emails, answering phones, and assisting the public.
- Provide office support: schedule appointments and meetings, maintain calendars, screen mail, and take informal minutes.
- Review and proofread: ensure materials are free of spelling, grammar, and other errors.
- Learn procedures and regulations: understand the operational standards, terminology, and documents related to the position.
- Communicate effectively: accurately receive and transmit information, establishing cooperative relations with the public and colleagues.
- Language skills: speak, understand, read, write, and possibly translate a second language alongside English, depending on assignment requirements.
- Perform various office tasks: handle additional relevant duties as assigned.
🎓 Minimum Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- bilingual/multilingual: required for key positions as determined by the Department Head
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office: including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Database experience: working with and maintaining digital databases
- Attention to detail: thoroughness to meet quality standards
- Public interaction: willingness to engage with the public and perform public speaking (training provided)
- Customer service skills: excellent abilities on the phone, in-person, and in writing
- Problem-solving: confidence in resolving issues and interacting effectively with the public
- Teamwork & communication: effective verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of needs of older adults & persons with disabilities: may be required for key positions
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED: required
- Relevant work experience: minimum of two years preferred
🛡️ Background Screening & Requirements
Applicants may need to submit references for background checks. A background screening will be conducted, requiring a valid state-issued driver’s license or ID card, along with a U.S. Social Security number.
💰 Compensation & Benefits
Starting wage: $21.91 per hour
Work schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, life insurance, paid time off (vacation & sick leave), and paid holidays. Also, participation in the Orange County Employee Retirement System (OCERS) and optional deferred compensation 457 plan and medical flexible spending plan.
Note: The IHSS Public Authority operates independently from the County of Orange, and employment terms and benefits may differ.
