Position Summary
We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity to serve as a Medical Assistant in Brooklyn. The successful candidate will support healthcare providers and nursing staff in an ambulatory care setting, providing vital patient support in accordance with clinic policies.
This role requires onsite presence five days a week, including every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate awareness and respect for coworkers’ and patients’ cultural backgrounds 🌎
- Complete laboratory tests and specialty referral forms 💉
- Transport and accompany patients as needed 🚶♂️
- Monitor patients and alert nursing staff to urgent care needs ⚠️
- Retrieve lab and ancillary test results from the computer or reference laboratories 🖥️
- Complete patient forms, e.g., WIC 📝
- Check for completeness of encounter forms and prescriptions ✅
- Obtain vital signs, including height, weight, head and chest circumference 🩺
- Plot growth charts for pediatric patients 📊
- Perform simple dressings and provide translation services as necessary 🌡️🗣️
- Coordinate supply requests for the module/site 📦
- Perform EKG and audiovisual testing 🎧
- Set up and remove Holter monitors 🖥️
- Perform venous phlebotomyblood draws 💉
- Respond appropriately to patient emergencies such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure 🚑
- Document care and data collected ✍️
- Maintain a sensitive and supportive attitude towards patients and families ❤️
- Keep all service areas orderly and clean 🧹
- Reinforce health education to patients and families 📚
- Assist with clerical duties related to the area of assignment 🗃️
- Support other FHC departments as needed, based on leadership requests 🔄
- Attend staff meetings and maintain ongoing professional development 🎓
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent 🎓
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program 🏥
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association ❤️
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of ambulatory care experience 🩺
- Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels 🗣️
