Role Overview 📝
The primary purpose of a Medical Assistant at Oak Street Health is to gather comprehensive medical information from patients, ensuring providers have the most accurate data for making informed healthcare decisions. Medical Assistants (MAs) are essential members of our Care Teams, reporting to the Practice Manager or Center Operations Specialist.
This role demands flexibility, energy, sharp attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills. Building relationships with Oak Street Health members and collaborating closely with teammates are key to delivering exceptional patient experiences and clinical results. You will assist in assessing health conditions through screenings and routine diagnostic tests during appointments.
Responsibilities 🎯
- Ensure efficient patient flow: room patients promptly, complete vital signs, screenings, and medication reviews
- Inventory supplies and restock exam rooms
- Respond to patient requests via telephone (e.g., lab results, faxing records)
- Administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care tests as permitted by state regulations, including A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws, etc.
- Import necessary documents into EMR through scanning or PDF upload
- Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations
- Process orders for durable medical equipment
- Request external medical records when needed
- Conduct routine quality control checks (infection control, equipment, expired medications)
- Assist in maintaining the center's lab and perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For 🔍
Required Qualifications ✅
- State or national certification/license, or graduation from an accredited medical assistant program
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant
- CPR or BLS certification
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Gmail, MS Word, Excel, or their Google equivalents
- Proficiency in non-English languages as dictated by the center's demographics
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Strongly Preferred Qualifications 🌟
- Minimum of three years experience as a Medical Assistant
- Proven mastery of workflows in previous MA roles
- Interest in expanding responsibilities and clinical experience to impact patient lives
Preferred Qualifications 🎖️
- Over 2 years working with geriatric patients
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Work Details & Compensation 💸
Weekly Hours: 40 hours
Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $18.50 – $42.35 per hour
The actual salary depends on experience, education, location, and other factors. This position may also be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or short-term incentives.
