Position Overview

This is a field-based role located in California, USA, focused on driving the specification of Covestro materials within leading automotive OEMs and truck manufacturers on the West Coast. You'll play a pivotal role in introducing new products and technologies, developing a strong project pipeline, and expanding our market share in the region.

Key Customer Focus

  • Emerging OEMs in the USA
  • Japanese and Korean OEMs
  • Trading partners
  • West Coast truck manufacturers (Mack, International, Kenworth, Freightliner, Peterbilt)

You will develop strategic plans for this segment, manage project portfolios, and facilitate specifications with global sales teams.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities 🚀

  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with OEMs and trading partners to specify Covestro materials and grow our automotive market share.
  • Product & Technology Introduction: Proactively introduce innovative products and technologies, managing a pipeline of projects aligned with strategic goals (INTERIOR, EXTERIOR, LIGHTING, BATTERY PACKAGING).
  • Collaboration: Work with Sales, Application Development, and Product Technology teams to ensure successful project execution, including Business Development Projects (BDP).
  • Market Analysis: Conduct analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the automotive sector.
  • Coordination: Engage with global counterparts within Covestro to facilitate information exchange and product approvals at headquarters.
  • Technical Issue Resolution: Address technical and project challenges through direct communication with engineering and business functions within OEMs, tiers, and Covestro.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Enhance relationships with innovative solutions and partnership strategies.

Basic Qualifications 📘

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field with 8+ years of professional experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in the automotive industry.

Preferred Qualifications 🌟

  • Experience in market development, sales, or technical functions within the automotive industry.

Knowledge & Skills 🔧

  • Strong technical expertise in engineering plastics and injection molding applications.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work extended hours if needed.
  • Independent, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, and team-oriented.
  • Strategic thinking for short- and long-term planning.
  • Advanced negotiation and project management skills.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Japanese or Korean is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse cultures.
