The Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a passionate and experienced Hebrew Learning Specialist to support students in our lower school division for the 2026-27 academic year. 🌟
Job Overview
As a full-time Hebrew Learning Specialist, you will work closely with students in Grades 1–5, fostering their skills in Ivrit and Judaic Studies. You will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure a supportive and effective Hebrew language learning environment, especially for students with diverse learning profiles and needs. 🤝
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalized instruction: Deliver small-group and/or one-on-one lessons in Ivrit for students needing additional support.
- Develop intervention plans: Create targeted strategies to improve decoding, reading fluency, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Assess student progress: Conduct and interpret informal and formal assessments to inform instruction.
- Collaborate: Work with Hebrew/Judaic Studies teachers to adapt curriculum and differentiate lessons.
- Coordinate support: Partner with General Studies Learning Specialists to ensure comprehensive student assistance.
- Engage families: Maintain clear and thoughtful communication regarding student progress.
- Participate: Join team meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives to foster continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Native Hebrew speaker (required) 🗣️
- Degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Education, or related field
- Minimum of two years experience as a Learning Specialist
- Deep knowledge of language-based learning differences and evidence-based intervention strategies
- Experience supporting second-language acquisition
- Ability to design structured, multisensory language instruction
- Flexible, collaborative, and reflective practitioner
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
