Job Description 📋

The Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages in the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool.

We welcome applications from prospective temporary faculty with expertise or experience in the following areas:

• Linguistics or related fields
• ESL Composition or related fields
• Asian/Middle Eastern Languages (Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Persian) or related fields
• Computational linguistics

Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time, often made close to the academic term start date. The academic calendar includes:

• Fall term: mid-August to late December
• Spring term: mid-January to mid-May
• Summer Sessions (may be available)

Initial appointments typically cover one semester or an academic year, with renewal contingent on performance and continued need. Applications remain active in the pool throughout the academic year.

Qualifications ✅

• Graduate degree preferred in Linguistics or related fields, ESL Composition, or Asian/Middle Eastern Languages
• University teaching experience
• Demonstrated currency in subject matter

• Unofficial transcripts (for new employees)

Initial rank and salary depend on professional background and education, with most new hires starting at Lecturer A or B. Salary ranges as of July 2024 are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
