About the Position
The Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages within the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University invites applications for their part-time lecturer pool. This role offers opportunities for faculty with expertise or experience in the following areas:
- Linguistics or related fields
- ESL Composition or related fields
- Asian/Middle Eastern Languages (Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Persian) or related fields
- Computational linguistics
Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time, often made on short notice prior to academic terms. The academic calendar includes:
- Fall: Mid-August to late December
- Spring: Mid-January to mid-May
- Summer Sessions (availability may vary)
Initial appointments are usually for one semester or academic year, with possible renewal based on performance and ongoing needs. Applications remain active in the pool during the academic year.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Graduate degree in Linguistics or related disciplines, ESL Composition, Asian/Middle Eastern Languages, or related fields
- University teaching experience
- Current knowledge in the subject matter

Initial salary and rank are determined based on professional background and experience, typically at Lecturer A or B levels. The current salary ranges effective July 2024 are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
