Washington and Lee University Is Hiring A Language Teaching Assistant

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Washington and Lee University is seeking a passionate and qualified World Language Teaching Assistant (WLTA) in Japanese starting August 2026. 🌏 Position: World Language Teaching Assistant (WLTA) in Japanese

📍 About the Position

Washington and Lee University's Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures invites applications for a full-time, annually renewable WLTA position in Japanese, contingent on funding and performance. The successful candidate will assist full-time faculty in teaching first- and second-year Japanese courses. Key responsibilities include:

  • Independently teaching drill sessions
  • Grading homework assignments
  • Holding office hours for student support
  • Planning weekly Japanese table activities
  • Assisting with department special events

🎓 Minimum Qualifications

  • Native-level fluency in Japanese
  • Possession of a B.A. degree, preferably in areas such as Teaching Japanese as a Second Language, Linguistics, or Second Language Acquisition
  • Near-native fluency in Japanese and English
  • College or university teaching experience (preferred, but not required)
