We Are Looking For
Currently, we seek a highly skilled Kurdish (Sorani) linguist with proficiency in Arabic. This role demands a language expert capable of managing diverse, complex linguistic tasks with accuracy, cultural awareness, and insight.
What You'll Do

Translation
- Accurately translate digital and hard copy materials between Kurdish, Arabic, and English.
- Capture subtle nuances, cultural references, and abstract concepts with contextual precision.
- Effectively identify geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural references.
- Utilize terminology aligned with subject matter norms in the target language.

Interpretation
- Provide consecutive interpretation; occasional simultaneous interpretation may be required.
- Maintain high fidelity and fluency, demonstrating understanding of regional dialects and cultural contexts.

Transcription
- Listen to audio or review online content and transcribe accurately and efficiently.
- Produce high-quality English reports based on audio-visual materials.
- Show nuanced understanding of dialectical variations.

Gisting and Summarization
- Identify and summarize key facts and abstract concepts accurately.
- Prioritize and extract critical information from large datasets.
- Effectively use reference materials to support quality output.
Security Clearance
- No clearance required to apply.
- Candidate must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph (must be fully adjudicated before work begins). Leidos sponsors candidates after passing all required language tests.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 4–8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 2–6 years. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.
- Translation and/or interpretation degree highly desired.
- HLT experience is a plus.
- Successful completion of a Leidos-administered language proficiency test or equivalent at the Primary level or higher.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic online research skills.
- All candidates must pass language tests administered by Leidos or an approved commercial vendor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting contingency operations as a deployed linguist.
- Familiarity with the U.S. Intelligence Community, military operations, or law enforcement environments.
- Ability to brief and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in multiple languages is highly advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of all sponsor-related training.
- Passing medical and physical screenings as required.
- Successful weapons training completion.
- Willingness to travel both OCONUS and CONUS, supporting the contract 24/7 when on travel.
