Internship Opportunities at FDD

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) is a nonpartisan policy institute dedicated to promoting pluralism, defending democratic values, and combating ideologies that threaten democracy. Founded shortly after 9/11 by visionary philanthropists and policymakers, FDD focuses on engaging in the global war of ideas and supporting democratic societies under threat from terrorism and militant Islamism. The organization integrates policy research, investigative journalism, strategic communications, and education in democracy and counterterrorism.

About FDD's Internship Program

Located in downtown Washington, D.C., FDD offers a variety of internship opportunities. All interns will participate in a bi-monthly speaker series featuring high-level DC officials and senior staff, fostering an engaging learning environment. Interns are encouraged to develop their academic and professional skills by working closely with experienced staff. FDD is also available to assist students seeking academic credit for this internship. Please note that all internships are unpaid.

Note: FDD will offer both hybrid and remote internship options for the Spring 2026 semester. ✨

The Israel Program Research Internship

The Israel Program is seeking full-time or part-time interns to work closely with the research team on topics related to Israel, Palestinian politics, international organizations, regional developments, foreign relations, and national security. Those interested in the Middle East and foreign policy are strongly encouraged to apply. Indicate any specific project interests in your cover letter. The internship requires research experience and strong writing skills, with additional language skills in Arabic or Hebrew as a plus but not mandatory.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Relevant coursework in International Relations, Security Studies, History, Communications, Journalism, International Economics, Political Science, Computer Science, or related STEM fields
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and basic Excel skills
  • Availability to commit at least 22 hours per week
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States
