Language Service Agency Interpreter

Are you seeking a flexible, on-site interpreting role that fits around your schedule? This position offers a Monday-Friday workweek until June 2026, providing reliable hours and the chance to support students, teachers, and parents in a Nassau school district.

About the Role

Based in a Long Island school district, you will provide essential language support to facilitate communication across English and Punjabi. This opportunity allows you to leverage your bilingual skills in a dynamic, educational setting.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Communication: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate verbally and in writing across cultures in both English and Punjabi.
• Fluency: Native-level proficiency in both English and Punjabi.
• Time Management: Capable of maintaining schedules and completing tasks on time.
• Policies & Procedures: Ability to follow guidelines outlined by the agency.
• Experience: Three+ years of professional language service experience preferred.

Interpreting Responsibilities

• Attend in-person meetings between parents, students, and school staff to facilitate spoken communication in both languages.
• Interpret clearly and accurately, conveying tone and meaning while understanding idiomatic expressions and slang.
• Assist with written and oral communication as needed, ensuring understanding for all participants.

Additional Responsibilities

• Translate conversations and written documents, maintaining original tone and intent.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and staff.
• Manage your schedule effectively to meet deadlines and complete assignments.
• Participate in virtual, phone, and in-person meetings with timely communication.
• Continuously expand your educational vocabulary and engage in professional development.

Qualifications

• Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Punjabi.
• Experience in interpreting and translating between English and Punjabi.
• Willingness to travel onsite within Long Island school districts.
• Availability Monday through Friday for job assignments.
