The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Program in Jewish Culture and Society is seeking passionate educators to teach Hebrew and enrich our Jewish Studies offerings. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a vibrant academic community and advance your career in higher education.

About the Position 📝

We invite applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor or Lecturer position to teach Hebrew and develop the Hebrew program. Candidates with additional expertise in Hebrew literature, Israeli culture, Yiddish, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications 🎓

  • Master's degree (Instructor) or Ph.D. (Lecturer) in Hebrew language, Hebrew literature, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field.
  • Proficiency-based language instruction skills with professional-level proficiency in Hebrew and English.
  • Preference given to candidates with:
    • Advanced graduate work in Hebrew or a closely related field,
    • Effective college-level language teaching record, or
    • Experience in curricular and program development outside of college settings.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and the ability to design a proficiency-based, two-year language sequence.
  • Experience training and supervising instructors with limited teaching experience is a plus.

Appointment Details 🚀

  • Type: Full-time, non-tenure track
  • Duration: 9-month appointment
  • Salary: $60,000 (budgeted)
  • Teaching Load: 3 courses per semester (3:3)
  • Start Date: August 16, 2026
  • Work Location: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus

This position is eligible for sponsorship of work authorization, excluding new H1B petitions with the associated $100,000 fee. The role adheres to the University's Workplace Flexibility policy for full-time on-campus work.
