Job Description
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach four sections of classes in an interactive classroom environment, promoting student engagement and learning.
- Coach athletic teams or supervise an afternoon program for approximately two out of three seasons.
- Serve as a faculty advisor, guiding students academically and personally.
- Live in a dormitory and/or participate in the residential life program, including weeknight and weekend responsibilities.
- Participate in student life and academic programs such as QUEST and Project:Pomfret.
- Attend faculty, school, departmental meetings, chapel services, and other essential functions; be available for weekly office hours.
- Manage relationships with parents to support students' social, emotional, academic, and personal development.
- Know, understand, and commit to the Mission and Vision of Pomfret School.
- Build positive relationships with students and colleagues, fostering a supportive community.
- Design and facilitate meaningful learning experiences that are student-centered, relevant, and empowering.
- Value diversity in thoughts, perspectives, learning abilities, and life experiences among students and staff.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create programs (academic, extracurricular, dormitory, QUEST, Project:Pomfret, etc.) that support student growth and align with school goals.
- Cultivate reflective practice by seeking feedback, documenting learning, and setting goals aimed at student outcomes.
- Pursue ongoing professional growth and development.
- Maintain current knowledge of discipline, review and revise curriculum, and expand teaching strategies.
- Adhere to school policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in a residential or day school setting.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Team-oriented mindset dedicated to supporting student growth.
- Valid US driver’s license.
- Passionate about and comfortable working with adolescents; enjoys engaging with high school students.
- Ability to relate well to students, parents, and colleagues.
- Organized, diligent, and possess a strong work ethic.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Communicates clearly, promptly, and maintains confidentiality.
- Empathetic leader and learner, proven success in student-centered mentoring.
Work Conditions
- Involves sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer.
- Coaching or afternoon activities may require outdoor work.
- Driving a school bus for activities may be necessary.
