Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Planning: Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) standards, FCPS curriculum, and the Portrait of a Graduate framework. 📚
- Instructional Strategies: Utilize diverse methods such as direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and project-based activities to promote critical thinking and creativity.
- Differentiated Instruction: Adapt lessons and materials to meet diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities, English learners, and those requiring enrichment or interventions.
- Assessment & Data Analysis: Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback to students and families.
- Resource Integration: Select and incorporate instructional materials and technologies to enrich learning experiences, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.
- Classroom Environment: Establish routines and expectations that foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive atmosphere.
- Cultural Competency: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, respecting differences in language, culture, race, gender, and ability. 🌍
- Collaboration: Work with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to design instruction, analyze data, and coordinate supports through teams and committees.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with students, families, and the community, supporting student well-being and engagement.
- Specialized Supports: Contribute to individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior intervention plans, and English language supports in collaboration with specialists.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and compliance documentation.
- Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development, reflect on practices, and incorporate new knowledge to improve instruction.
- Student Engagement: Provide opportunities for career readiness, college prep, community involvement, and extracurricular activities that extend learning beyond the classroom. 🎓
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role involves working within a dynamic school setting, including classrooms, gyms, cafeterias, auditoriums, and outdoor areas. You will be actively engaged in daily interactions with students and colleagues, utilizing technology such as whiteboards and computers. Regular movement, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, is necessary. Excellent verbal communication and visual attention are essential to monitor student safety and facilitate instruction.
