Role Overview

We are seeking skilled Expert Persian Transcribers to convert audio recordings of native speakers into highly precise, conventionally formatted transcripts. Your work will support speech recognition, dialogue systems, and evaluation frameworks for leading AI labs. Audio samples range from clear studio recordings to spontaneous conversational speech in diverse acoustic environments.

You’ll operate at the level of expert linguistic judgment—this is not simple data entry. Your decisions on orthography, code-switching, speaker attribution, disfluencies, and non-speech sounds directly influence the quality of AI models trained on your transcripts.

Language and Regional Focus

• Primary language: Persian (Farsi) as spoken in Iran
• Related varieties: Dari (Afghanistan) and Tajik (regionally relevant)
• Audio characteristics: Everyday Iranian Persian speech with regional variations from cities such as:
• Tehran
• Isfahan
• Mashhad
• Shiraz
• Tabriz
• Qom

What You Will Do 🎧✍️

• Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time-aligned text following Perle's style guide
• Apply proper conventions for speaker identification, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, laughter, background noise, and music
• Make informed orthographic choices for dialectal, colloquial, and code-switched speech
• Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues per project protocols
• Conduct self-review of each submission against Perle's quality standards before delivery
• Collaborate with QA reviewers on edge cases, calibration sessions, and updates to style guidelines

Must Have 📝

• Native fluency in Iranian Persian with lifelong residence or deep immersion in Iran
• High proficiency in reading and writing Perso-Arabic script
• Ability to differentiate Iranian Persian from Dari and Tajik, especially in mixed audio
• Understanding of Arabic loanwords and colloquial Persian speech
• Minimum of two years professional experience in transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcasting, translation, or linguistic annotation
• Demonstrated accuracy at the word level under deadlines
• Comfort with web-based annotation platforms and variable-speed audio playback
• Reliable internet connection, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
• Ability to commit to certain weekly volumes during active project phases

Nice To Have 🌟

• Background in Iranian linguistics, translation, journalism, or media
• Previous experience annotating Persian speech data
• Knowledge of Arabic, Dari, or Tajik for cross-lingual tasks
• Familiarity with IPA or other phonetic transcription systems
• Experience with verbatim and clean-verbatim transcription conventions
