What You'll Do

• Transcribe audio recordings into precise, time-aligned text following Perle's style guide
• Apply correct conventions for speaker identification, overlap, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, and non-speech events (such as laughter, background noise, music)
• Make principled orthographic decisions for dialects, colloquial speech, and code-switching
• Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues
• Perform self-review of every submission to meet Perle's quality standards
• Engage with QA reviewers during calibration sessions and for style guide updates

Must Have

• Native fluency in Iranian Persian with lifelong residence or deep immersion in Iran
• Strong reading and writing skills in Perso-Arabic script with high accuracy
• Ability to distinguish Iranian Persian from Dari and Tajik in mixed audio
• Familiarity with Arabic loanword conventions and colloquial speech
• At least two years of professional experience in transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcasting, translation, or linguistic annotation
• Proven accuracy at the word level under deadline pressure
• Comfort with web-based annotation platforms and variable-speed audio playback
• Reliable high-speed internet, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
• Ability to commit to target volume during active project phases

Nice to Have

• Background in Iranian linguistics, translation, journalism, or media
• Experience annotating Persian-variety speech data
• Working knowledge of Arabic, Dari, or Tajik for cross-lingual tasks
• Familiarity with IPA or other phonetic transcription systems
• Experience with verbatim versus clean-verbatim transcription conventions
