Role Overview

As a Persian transcriber, you will:

• Convert audio recordings of native speakers into accurate, time-aligned written transcripts
• Follow Perle’s project-specific style guide for transcription standards
• Apply conventions for speaker identification, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, and non-speech sounds like laughter or background noise
• Make informed orthographic decisions for dialectal, colloquial, and code-switched speech
• Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues
• Review your work to ensure it meets Perle’s quality standards before submission
• Collaborate with QA reviewers on edge cases, calibration, and style updates

Qualifications - Must Have ✅

• Native fluency in Iranian Persian with lifelong residence or deep immersion in Iran
• High accuracy in reading and writing Perso-Arabic script
• Ability to distinguish Iranian Persian from Dari and Tajik in mixed audio
• Familiarity with Arabic loanwords and colloquial Persian speech
• At least two years of professional experience in transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcast, translation, or linguistic annotation
• Proven accuracy at the word level under deadlines
• Comfort with web-based annotation platforms and variable-speed audio playback
• Reliable high-speed internet, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
• Capacity to commit to a designated weekly volume during active projects

Nice To Have 🌟

• Background in Iranian linguistics, translation, journalism, or media
• Experience annotating Persian speech data
• Knowledge of Arabic, Dari, or Tajik for cross-lingual audio
• Familiarity with IPA or other phonetic transcription systems
• Experience with verbatim vs. clean-verbatim transcription conventions
