Role Overview

We are seeking skilled expert Persian transcribers to convert native speaker audio recordings into precise, well-formatted transcripts. Your work supports speech recognition, conversational dialogue systems, and evaluation models in major AI labs. Audio samples include everything from studio recordings to natural, real-world speech with regional accents and variations.

This role involves expert linguistic judgment. It is more than data entry: your decisions on orthography, code-switching, speaker attribution, disfluencies, non-speech events, and more will directly influence the quality of AI models trained on your transcripts.

Language Focus

• Persian (Farsi) as spoken in Iran, with awareness of Dari (Afghanistan) and Tajik varieties where relevant
• Project audio reflects everyday Iranian Persian speech, including regional variations
• Primary speaker regions: Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, Tabriz, Qom

What You Will Do

• Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time-aligned text following Perle's style guide
• Apply proper conventions for speaker identification, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, laughter, background noise, music, etc.
• Make principled orthographic choices for dialectal, colloquial, and code-switched speech
• Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues using project protocols
• Self-review each submission to meet Perle's high-quality standards before delivery
• Coordinate with QA reviewers on special cases, calibration sessions, and updates to style guides

Must Have

• Native fluency in Iranian Persian, with lifelong residence or deep immersion in Iran
• Proficiency in reading and writing Perso-Arabic script with high accuracy
• Ability to distinguish between Iranian Persian, Dari, and Tajik in mixed audio contexts
• Familiarity with Arabic loanwords and colloquial Persian usage
• At least two years of professional experience in transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcast, translation, or linguistic annotation
• Demonstrated accuracy at the word level under tight deadlines
• Comfort with web-based annotation tools and variable-speed audio playback
• Reliable high-speed internet, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
• Capacity to commit to weekly volume targets during active project phases

Nice to Have

• Background in Iranian linguistics, translation, journalism, or media
• Experience annotating Persian-language speech data
• Knowledge of Arabic, Dari, or Tajik for cross-lingual audio
• Familiarity with IPA or other phonetic transcription systems
• Experience with verbatim vs. clean-verbatim transcription methodologies
