About the Team
The AP Curriculum and Assessment Team at College Board, comprising over 90 staff members, collaborates broadly across the AP Program to develop, manage, and deliver more than 40 AP courses spanning various subject areas. AP® offers a challenging academic program that enables high school students to study at the college level.
Our course experts ensure curricula meet higher education standards, contribute to instructional resources, and develop assessments that demonstrate student mastery. We are also advancing the strategic use of AI to expand access, improve instructional design, and refine assessment processes.
The English, World Languages, and Arts department, including courses like English Literature, English Language, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Music Theory, Spanish Literature, and Art & Design, supports 14 courses with a team of 28 specialists.
About the Opportunity
As the Director I, AP French Language and Culture, you will lead efforts to maintain and elevate the quality and validity of the AP French Language and Culture exam, curriculum, and professional development offerings. Your responsibilities include:
- Item development and management from authoring to assessment administration.
- Training and collaborating with subject-matter experts (SMEs), including college professors and high school teachers.
- Ethically integrating AI tools to support fairness, validity, and innovation in assessments.
- Bridging the gap between academic and technical teams, including psychometricians.
- Developing formative assessment resources for teachers worldwide.
- Serving as the primary contact for AP community committees related to French Language and Culture.
- Contributing to the strategic global growth of AP French Language and Culture.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment Development and Scoring (45-75%)
Be the assessment leader for AP French Language and Culture with responsibilities including:
- Leading the creation and revision of assessment content, including stimulus material selection and application of best assessment practices.
- Managing assessment forms to ensure alignment with curriculum standards and test specifications.
- Facilitating face-to-face and virtual meetings during evenings or weekends with the Test Development Committee.
- Training and supervising committee members involved in content development and review.
- Overseeing the scoring process during the annual AP Reading, both in person and online, and producing related publications for teachers and students.
Assessment Quality and Process (10-25%)
Contribute to advancing assessment best practices through participation in initiatives focused on:
- Ensuring assessment validity and fairness.
- Continually improving development protocols and scoring procedures.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to uphold high standards of assessment quality.
