Join Our Dynamic Team: Part-Time Lecturer Pool in Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages

San Diego State University's Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages is inviting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective faculty with expertise in linguistics, ESL composition, or Asian/Middle Eastern languages to contribute to a vibrant academic community. 🌎📚

Areas of Focus

We welcome applications from individuals with experience or expertise in the following fields:

  • Linguistics or related fields
  • ESL Composition or related fields
  • Asian/Middle Eastern Languages (Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Persian) or related disciplines

Appointment Details

Temporary positions may be full- or part-time, often filled shortly before the start of each academic term. The key dates are:

  • Fall Semester: Mid-August to late December
  • Spring Semester: Mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer sessions may also be available

Initial appointments typically cover one semester or an academic year, with potential for renewal based on performance and ongoing need. Applications remain in our pool during the academic year you apply. ⏳

Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Graduate degree preferred in Linguistics, ESL Composition, Asian/Middle Eastern Languages, or related fields
  • University teaching experience
  • Demonstrated expertise and current knowledge in the subject matter

Compensation & Salary

Initial rank and salary depend on professional experience and educational background. Most appointments start at the Lecturer A or B level, with the following salary ranges (as of July 2023):

  • Lecturer A: $5,007 – $6,359
  • Lecturer B: $5,925 – $12,594
  • Lecturer C: $6,500 – $13,831
  • Lecturer D: $8,184 – $14,487
