💰 Compensation

Biweekly Salary: $3,306.15 – $4,018.29

Annual Salary Range: $85,960 – $104,475

📝 Responsibilities

• Interpret from and into Cantonese and English using simultaneous and consecutive modes during court proceedings and related departments, under court direction.
• Provide sight translations of legal documents such as petitions, reports, waivers, and disposition forms.
• Interpret for judges, attorneys, court staff, and other personnel as directed.
• Identify and report items that may impede interpretation during proceedings.
• Research and understand legal terminology used in court settings.
• Receive daily assignments from the Court Interpreter Supervisor and accurately maintain logs and documentation.
• Perform additional interpretation duties, including short document sight translations.
• Operate within office and courtroom environments, engaging regularly with judges, attorneys, litigants, and the community.

⚙️ Physical Requirements

Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and stretching for extended periods. Requires manual dexterity, good eye‑hand coordination, and normal hearing and vision. Effective verbal communication and use of office equipment are necessary.

🎓 Qualifications

• Certification: Valid Certified Court Interpreter issued by the Judicial Council of California
• Experience: At least one year of full‑time interpreting/translating in a courtroom or business environment

📚 Knowledge & Competencies

• Legal terminology and courtroom functions
• Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in English and Cantonese
• Interpreter ethics, standards, and techniques
• Legal clerical practices, procedures, and policies

🛠️ Abilities

• Convey accurate meaning orally in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation modes without editing or omission
• Provide written translations between English and Cantonese
• Understand and retain dialogue at courtroom pace in both languages
• Establish effective working relationships with judges, attorneys, witnesses, and staff
• Learn and apply court procedures effectively
• Follow instructions with precision
