Exciting Internship Opportunity Supporting Small Businesses in NYC 🚀
Join Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (REDC) as a Business Advisor Support Intern and gain hands-on experience in community development, small business financing, and economic empowerment across NYC.
Position Summary
REDC, a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented intern to support our Business Advisor team in serving NYC's diverse small businesses. This is an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in economic development, community impact, and access-to-capital initiatives. The intern will help with business counseling, loan application assistance, community outreach, and learn how REDC supports low-to-moderate income businesses.
Key Responsibilities (Support Role) 📝
- Participate in outreach activities across NYC, including events, tabling, and partner engagement.
- Provide translation and interpretation (Mandarin Chinese ↔ English) during client meetings and workshops, as needed.
- Assist Business Advisors with client intake, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
- Support the preparation of loan application packages by gathering documentation and organizing files.
- Maintain accurate client records in Salesforce and support data entry and reporting tasks.
- Develop and distribute workshop and marketing materials on topics like financial literacy, digital marketing, and business planning.
- Conduct basic market research and collect community resource information to enhance REDC’s services.
- Shadow Business Advisors to learn about counseling, small business operations, and loan processing processes.
What We’re Looking For 🎯
- Current student or recent graduate in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or related fields (preferred).
- Interest in economic development, community impact, entrepreneurship, and small business finance.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities; detail-oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Suite; Salesforce or CRM experience a plus (training provided).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a mission-driven team.
- Commitment to supporting diverse low-to-moderate income communities.
- Willingness to work in person in Flushing and occasionally travel across NYC boroughs.
- Fluent in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) – required.
