Henry J Austin Health Center Is Hiring A Bilingual Unit Receptionist

Customer Service and Bilingual Interpreter – Starting at $44,100 💼

An essential role providing critical communication support between patients and clinical staff within healthcare centers, ensuring smooth operations and quality patient care.

🔹 Major Function

Serve as the point of contact between patients, clients, and healthcare units, following the health center’s philosophy. Provide administrative support and clerical functions to facilitate unit operations.

🔹 Essential Functions

  • Interpretation Services: Interpret for non-English speaking patients requiring Spanish translation. Listen to facility staff and translate information into the patient's native language in layman’s terms; relay responses back to staff.
  • Medical Communication: Interpret and translate relevant information such as reasons for visits, medical history, care instructions, and medication details.
  • Patient Reception: Greet all patients, clients, and customers via phone or in person in a culturally sensitive, professional manner.
  • Patient Care and Documentation: Demonstrate concern for patient needs, process and maintain medical records confidentially, and manage referral and pre-certification documents timely.
  • Charting and Data Management: Verify and update patient files, input data into electronic records, and scan documents accordingly.
  • Team Collaboration: Interface effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff, participate in daily huddles, and contribute to team-initiated projects.
  • Clerical Support: Perform administrative tasks such as filing, scheduling appointments, handling prescriptions, and managing referrals.
  • Patient Scheduling & Follow-up: Coordinate appointment scheduling, confirm appointments, and follow-up on no-shows or reschedules.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed on medical office trends, participate in staff education, and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Additional Duties: Monitor supplies, assist with Spanish interpretation, attend training, and perform tasks as assigned by the Nurse Care Manager.

📝 Requirements

📚 Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 1 year of related experience or equivalent training preferred
  • Participation in medical interpretation and terminology training is encouraged

  • None required

🧠 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish; proficiency testing in Spanish within 30 days if bilingual
  • Strong reading, writing, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with office equipment and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to learn new software and processes

💪 Physical & Work Environment

This role requires manual dexterity for operating office equipment, light lifting, and physical activity such as kneeling and bending. Clear speaking and hearing abilities are necessary for effective communication. Vision needs include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
