📋 Job Description

Under the supervision of the Supportive Housing Programs Supervisor, the Tenant Services Coordinator at Hillside Senior Apartments provides light-touch social services to tenants, focusing on case management and support for previously homeless seniors referred from NYC shelters.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily on-site services: Ensure services align with RiseBoro's mission and tenant needs.
  • Assess needs & support planning: Complete assessments, develop, review, and document tenant-centered support plans.
  • Case management & advocacy: Offer ongoing support, including counseling, referrals, and crisis intervention.
  • Maintain housing benefits: Ensure tenants retain housing subsidies and benefits necessary for permanent housing.
  • Benefit identification & application: Assist tenants in qualifying for additional benefits and facilitate applications.
  • Foster community & engagement: Promote tenant engagement through workshops, social activities, and celebrations; provide translation when needed.
  • Resident education: Inform residents about available services and community resources.
  • Record keeping: Maintain up-to-date records, including personal, eligibility, and service documentation.
  • Monitoring & inspections: Conduct home visits, calls, and periodic inspections with property management.
  • Collaborate with community partners: Support residents aging in place by coordinating home care and discharge planning.
  • Communication with property staff: Liaise on resident issues, incidents, and hospitalizations outside of working hours.
  • Tenant escorts: Accompany tenants to appointments when necessary.
  • Other duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

🛠️ Competencies & Qualifications

  • Experience in social services preferred; client/customer service experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin or Cantonese required
  • Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills
  • Team player with the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable, including availability for weekends and evenings as needed

  • Understanding of institutional and structural racism and bias, and their impacts
  • Dedicated to supporting marginalized communities (e.g., people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, justice-involved persons)

🎓 Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred in social work, psychology, or related human services field
  • Minimum of one (1) year in customer or client services required
