Job Description: Special Education Teacher - Bilingual Education & ESL Support

Position Overview

Instruct students in grades 7-12 as part of a bilingual education and English as a New Language (ENL) program dedicated to Cantonese-speaking students who are English language learners and have neurological learning challenges. Provide comprehensive ENL support and develop personalized educational plans to foster academic and developmental growth. 🏫

Key Responsibilities

• Instruction & Curriculum Planning: Design and deliver engaging lessons across all academic subjects, tailoring materials to each student's abilities and interests. Consider state standards, school policies, and the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of students. 📚
• Specialized Support: Implement educational strategies and techniques aimed at improving sensory-motor skills, perception, memory, language, cognition, and socio-emotional development.
• Assessment & Feedback: Conduct continuous assessment of students’ levels of functioning, provide consistent reinforcement, and offer feedback to promote learning and motivation.
• Collaborative Planning: Work closely with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs). 🤝
• Family Engagement: Support parents in understanding and managing their child's learning impairments, fostering a collaborative approach to education.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Students with Disabilities, or a related field.
• Certifications:
  • New York State Teaching Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12)
  • New York State Bilingual Education Extension Certification in Cantonese

Location

This position is based in Brooklyn or the Bronx, NY, within a New York City Public School under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Education. 🏙️
