Position Summary

Reporting to the Suffolk County Regional Director, the Suffolk County Senior Bilingual Organizer plays a key role in local advocacy, community engagement, and campaign development. This position involves working within NYCLU’s state-wide Field Organizing Department to advance issues such as democratic participation, education equity, voting rights, and immigrant rights through grassroots organizing, leadership development, coalition-building, and public education efforts.

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish 🗣️
  • Experience in grassroots campaigns, base-building, and leadership development
  • Strong ability to engage, motivate, and build relationships with diverse communities
  • Strategic, passionate, collaborative, and committed to transformative change
  • Deep roots and familiarity with Suffolk County’s communities, history, and political landscape
  • Proficiency with MS Office, digital organizing tools, CRM platforms like EveryAction, and social media
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and crisis-mediation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Willing to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and travel within Suffolk County and NY State

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Empowerment: Center and support impacted communities through local organizing efforts.
  • Campaign Development & Leadership: Design and execute campaigns promoting social, educational, and political equity in Suffolk County schools and communities.
  • Relationship Building: Establish credibility with youth leaders, educators, community organizations, and policymakers.
  • Leadership Development: Cultivate young leaders, parents, and educators to advocate on issues affecting them.
  • Public Advocacy & Education: Organize rallies, forums, hearings, and media campaigns; deliver public speaking engagements.
  • Coalition & Partner Engagement: Develop strategic partnerships with community groups and organizations.
  • Event & Campaign Coordination: Lead outreach events, workshops, trainings, and strategy sessions.
  • Media & Outreach: Represent NYCLU publicly, facilitate media interviews, and support social media presence.
  • Internal Support: Contribute to leadership programming, training materials, and internal organizing strategies.
  • Administrative Tasks: Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, travel, and expenses. Update contact lists and manage social media.

Special Requirements

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Physical effort involved in outreach activities, events, and travel
  • Dependable access to a vehicle and willingness to drive long distances within NY
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
