About This Opportunity

The Pennsylvania Health Law Project (PHLP) is seeking to hire a full-time bilingual/Spanish-speaking paralegal to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will work under attorney supervision and collaborate with staff to provide essential legal assistance, advice, and representation to low-income clients facing Medicaid coverage or service denials. This position offers a hybrid work environment, with occasional in-person travel within Pennsylvania.

Job Duties & Responsibilities 📋

  • Manage a high-volume caseload related to access to health insurance and Medicaid services.
  • Conduct intakes, interview clients, provide case updates, and communicate legal information effectively.
  • Provide legal advice on Medicaid eligibility, services, and appeals under attorney supervision.
  • Represent clients at internal managed care appeals and administrative fair hearings.
  • Advocate for clients with third parties, including eligibility staff and managed care plans.
  • Maintain accurate client files and case records, including data entry and timekeeping.
  • Engage in community outreach and education, deliver trainings, and develop informational materials like fact sheets and blog posts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications ✅

  • At least 2+ years of experience as a paralegal or related role within legal services serving low-income communities (highly preferred).
  • Fluent in Spanish, including client communication, reading, writing, and document translation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive with demonstrated initiative and self-starting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small nonprofit environment.
  • Commitment to culturally competent, empathetic client service.
  • Experience with case management systems (e.g., LegalServer) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Office365/Microsoft Office is highly preferred.

Salary & Benefits 💼

The starting salary for this role is $50,923.20. Salaries are adjusted based on experience and skill level. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
