Hofmann & Schweitzer is seeking a highly experienced Bilingual Paralegal (English/Spanish) to support our litigation team in handling maritime-related injury cases across the U.S. This role involves managing cases independently, assisting attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, and contributing to administrative functions within the firm. 🚢⚖️
Position Summary
Hofmann & Schweitzer specializes in representing injured construction workers, railroad workers, passengers, and other personal injury victims in New York and New Jersey. We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented paralegal who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is proficient in both English and Spanish.
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate and/or substantial equivalent experience (3–5 years)
- Significant prior experience as a paralegal in a law firm, preferably in personal injury or litigation, with both federal and state court cases
- Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with case management systems
- Legal research experience (minor, but valuable)
- Professional demeanor and strong client service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, from intake through trial and settlement
- Draft and organize pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and correspondence
- Manage case files, medical records, and client documentation
- Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel in both English and Spanish 📝🌎
- Conduct legal and factual research as needed
- Assist with trial preparation and settlement efforts
- Collaborate with administrative staff to answer phones and respond to general inquiries 📞
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
