The Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) is a nationally recognized non-profit dedicated to advocating for low-income clients and communities of color in Virginia. Since 1967, we have fought systemic injustice through community organizing, litigation, policy advocacy, public relations, and legal services. We operate in Charlottesville, Richmond, Petersburg, and Falls Church, focusing on key areas such as Civil Rights & Racial Justice, Housing & Consumer Justice, Youth Justice, Health Justice & Public Benefits, Immigrant Justice, and Worker Justice.

Our recent victories include reforming Virginia’s unemployment system, securing eviction moratoriums during COVID-19, reducing incarceration rates, and more. With over 90 staff members, LAJC continues to grow and evolve, striving to create sustainable, community-driven change.

About The Position 🔎

This vital role requires Spanish fluency and involves coordinating administrative duties, client intake, and ensuring the efficient operation of our law office. The Office Manager will create a welcoming environment and support attorneys, organizers, staff, and clients alike.

Key Job Responsibilities 📋

  • Office Operations: Implement policies, oversee safety, and maintain an organized office space for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Client Intake & Support: Lead the intake team, monitor inquiries via Legal Server, and provide compassionate support in both Spanish and English. Translate as needed.
  • Communication & Coordination: Maintain close communication with legal and organizing staff to streamline intake processes.
  • Supervision & Management: Oversee administrative support staff, manage volunteers and interns, and facilitate weekly meetings with agendas, notes, and follow-up.
  • Legal & Vendor Support: Provide basic paralegal assistance, meet with attorneys and clients, draft documents, and manage relationships with vendors, landlords, and service providers.
  • Office Space & Supplies: Plan office layouts, coordinate moves, and ensure supplies are stocked and organized.
  • Promote Racial Equity: Support efforts to recruit diverse staff, foster a respectful environment, and advocate for cultural and institutional change to promote racial justice across all organizational levels.

Location & Work Environment 🏢🌐

This role is based in our Falls Church office with occasional travel between offices. Initially, in-person presence is required for several months, with the possibility for remote work one day per week after orientation, subject to discussions with your manager.

Compensation & Benefits 💰🎉

The salary ranges from $68,108.75 to $88,541.38 based on experience and qualifications, with an upward adjustment for Falls Church to reflect a 12% cost-of-living increase — resulting in a range of $76,281.80 to $99,166.34. The anticipated hiring range is $76,821.80 – $87,724.07.

Employees enrolled in the Loan Repayment Assistance Program may receive up to $7,500 annually for attorneys and $2,500 for non-attorneys, assisting with student loan repayment.
