About the Role
Interpreters at TPC play a critical role in supporting limited-English speakers through live, high-pressure calls. Whether assisting a patient during a medical appointment or helping someone access essential services, your bilingual fluency directly contributes to impactful, real-world outcomes. This is a professional, structured call center role demanding speed, precision, and cultural competence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consecutive interpretation between English and Cantonese across various sectors (medical, legal, customer service, etc.)
- Ensure accuracy, clarity, and neutrality, preserving tone, intent, and emotion
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times
- Manage call flow with professionalism; respectfully intervene for clarification
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence in high-pressure or emotionally charged interactions
- Apply active listening, note-taking, and short-term memory techniques for extended exchanges
- Adhere strictly to interpretation protocols, avoiding personal opinions or advice
- Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and feedback sessions to develop skills
- Utilize basic computer tools (MS Office, internal platforms) for call management and activity logging

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); college preferred
- Fluency in English and Cantonese, with B2+ proficiency or higher
- Ability to pass a language and interpreting skills assessment
- Minimum of 6 months experience in call center, customer service, or interpreting roles
- Excellent verbal communication, accuracy, and ethical judgment
- Capacity to think clearly and act professionally in fast-paced, emotionally charged situations
- Strong responsibility, integrity, and time management skills
- Comfortable with assertive communication and session control
- Basic computer proficiency, including typing and MS Office
- Quiet and distraction-free workspace conducive to active listening
- Stable home internet connection (cable, DSL, or fiber only)
Identity Qualification
Throughout recruitment and training, candidates must provide a valid government-issued photo ID. Failure to do so will disqualify applicants from consideration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in medical, legal, or community interpreting (a strong plus)
- Experience with remote work tools and communication platforms
Remote Work Requirements
- Quiet, comfortable, and distraction-free workspace
- Desktop or laptop computer (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
- Broadband internet (minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload) – cellular data/hotspots are not permitted
- Computer less than 5 years old with a functioning webcam
- Operating system: Windows 10 or newer / macOS Big Sur (OS 11) or newer

Please Note
While this role is remote, it is not flexible or 'work-at-your-own-pace.' Interpreters are expected to remain at their workstation, fully available for continuous calls. Multitasking or personal responsibilities during working hours are not permitted. A pre-scheduled, variable timetable is provided, with breaks and lunch periods assigned by our Workforce Management team.
