Position Summary
We are currently recruiting for a Human Services Specialist. This full-time role offers a pay rate of $28/hour and is based in Rockville, MD.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine eligibility for all County Safety Net programs.
- Complete required clearances including SVES, MABS, Worker Number, and Prison Clearance.
- Upload and scan clearance and supporting documents into ECMS and EICM systems.
- Review 992 Alerts and contact customers to obtain necessary documentation and verifications.
- Track work activities using Excel spreadsheets and other systems as directed by the County.
- Complete HIPAA, ISATP, and Sexual Harassment trainings.
- Interview and assess eligibility for county safety net programs managed by the Maryland Department of Human Services.
- Process applications for public benefit programs and maintain open cases to ensure timely benefits issuance, continuation, or termination.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Participate in developing departmental goals, objectives, and systems.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and seminars as required.
- Propose new approaches, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
Note: Training for system access will be provided by OESS.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Spanish bilingual strongly preferred.
- Experience in human services or related fields.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with ability to serve diverse, multicultural populations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong teamwork skills within interdisciplinary settings.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication abilities.
- Capacity to understand and follow established procedures and protocols.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
- Minimum of 5+ years in human services, public health, eligibility programs, social work, community outreach, advocacy, or related administrative/program management/data entry roles.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Standard hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM; additional evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Travel may be necessary.
