Characteristics of the Class

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. 🎓

Essential Functions

  • Instructional Planning: Develops written lesson plans aligned with instructional objectives, sets positive learning expectations, evaluates student progress, and maintains accurate records.
  • Instructional Methods: Applies contemporary learning theories, utilizes diverse instructional materials, participates in developing new teaching techniques, and enriches learning spaces with bulletin boards and interest areas.
  • Curriculum Knowledge and Student Engagement: Demonstrates thorough content knowledge, promotes attendance and anti-vandalism initiatives, and fosters positive classroom conduct consistent with the CPS Discipline Code.
  • Class Management: Maintains attendance records, encourages self-discipline and self-esteem, ensures fairness, and respects student individuality.
  • Parent and Community Relations: Initiates parent/guardian conferences, communicates student progress, and collaborates with staff and community resources.
  • Additional Responsibilities: May coordinate field trips, participate in extracurricular activities, and utilize community resources to enrich student experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework necessary for an Illinois State Board of Education teaching certificate(s).

License Requirements

Possession of one of the following valid Illinois State Board of Education licenses:

  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Educator License with Stipulations (ELS)

Properly endorsed for this position.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of subject matter aligned with certification standards.
  • Understanding of contemporary teaching principles and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to diverse student needs.
  • Collaborative spirit with faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Professional judgment and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force, frequently up to 10 pounds, with constant talking and hearing. Physical demands include occasional stooping, frequent reaching, handling objects, and near visual acuity.
