Salt Lake Community College Is Hiring An Adjunct

Join Our Growing Korean Language Program as an Adjunct Instructor! 🌏

We are excited to expand our Korean language courses and seek passionate instructors to teach first- and second-year Korean classes in a dynamic, interactive environment.

About the Position

This is a face-to-face role within a rapidly developing Korean program that started in 2023. The successful candidate will teach one or two sections per semester, with support from our Language Coordinator. Preference will be given to those with prior teaching experience in this area, as the position requires self-reliance and curriculum development skills.

Course Structure & Teaching Style

  • Courses are designed around flipped, communicative, and active-learning methodologies 🗣️
  • Cultural competence is essential, including navigating diversity and gender-neutral language 🌐
  • First-year courses are hybrid, requiring one hour of in-person service at the Center for Languages weekly.

Specific days and times are negotiable to accommodate your schedule.

Compensation & Application Details 💰

  • Pay rate of $1,056 per instructional unit
  • This is a pooled, semester-by-semester position with no employment guarantee.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Official transcripts are required within 30 days of hire if offered employment.
  • Background checks will be conducted if classes include K–12 students.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to college policies and maintain professional interactions with colleagues, students, and staff
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records
  • Evaluate student performance and communicate progress regularly
  • Create a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Report incidents related to student behavior as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications 📚

  • Academic Credentials: M.A. or Ph.D. in the target language (literature, linguistics, or culture) or a related field
  • Language Fluency: Native or near-native proficiency in Korean and English
  • Teaching Experience: At least two years teaching beginning/intermediate college-level language courses
  • Experience with online or livestream instruction is desirable
  • Training in foreign language pedagogy and best practices
  • Proficiency with Canvas or other LMS platforms
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted learning and online instructional methodologies
  • Understanding of decolonial studies, gender-neutral language, and cultural contexts (e.g., Brazil)
  • Strong communication skills to work with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities
