Position Overview
The Department of English, Literature, and World Languages invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach at our Big Rapids campus or other Michigan locations. These roles are semester-based, with potential openings for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, focusing on introductory, intermediate, or advanced French or Spanish courses.
Work Locations & Online Teaching
- In-person courses: Taught on Ferris State University campuses or approved sites within Michigan.
- Online courses: Taught fully online, with residency requirements in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, or Wisconsin.
- Note: Positions require residing in designated states after acceptance. Relocation outside these states will terminate employment.
Start Date
Positions begin in August 2026 and/or January 2027.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master's degree in Spanish or French, linguistics, Hispanic or Francophone cultural studies, or related field. Must include at least 18 graduate credits in the target language and near-native fluency (ACTFL Advanced Mid level).
- Work Experience: Proven ability to teach college-level courses fully in the target language.
- Licenses/Certifications: Not specified.
- Physical Demands: Office environment, moving, sitting, pulling/pushing, repetitive movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach French or Spanish courses through face-to-face, hybrid, or online modes, including holding classes, office hours, providing feedback, and submitting course materials.
- Utilize appropriate teaching technologies.
- Foster a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
- Participate in assessment, mentoring, and professional development activities.
- Promote a culture of belonging respecting diversity.
- Support university enrollment and retention initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular office hours and participate in academic functions such as grading and reporting.
- Teach exclusively online courses, residing in specified states at all times.
