🤝 Why We Need You
Reporting to the Program Manager for Youth & Family Development, we are seeking a full-time Staff Generalist: Youth Counselor with a 10th Grade Focus to join our Youth & Family Team in Flushing, Queens. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter, team-oriented, open to feedback, curious, and eager to learn through experience. You will work directly with local youth to support their growth and development.
📝 Duties and Responsibilities
- Engagement: Lead efforts to involve 10th-grade students at Flushing High School, mentoring through regular check-ins on attendance, engagement, academic habits, goal setting, skills development, and leadership.
- Individual Support: Develop and monitor Participant Plans (IPPs), tailoring support to each student's goals and tracking progress.
- Classroom Presence: Conduct classroom visits to facilitate activities promoting study skills, organization, goal setting, self-advocacy, college, and career awareness, as well as social-emotional skills.
- Engagement Activities: Facilitate workshops, panels, trips, and exposure activities at community centers and schools, fostering youth development and community connections.
- Partnership & Data Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to support youth goals, collect and analyze program data, and adjust strategies for better outcomes.
- Event Support: Assist with program events including college visits, career conferences, summer retreats, celebrations, and parties.
- Reporting & Meetings: Prepare reports, participate in team meetings, and contribute to staff training.
- Office Support: Maintain an organized workspace and assist with office operations as needed.
- Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned to ensure program success.
🎓 Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- 1-2 years of experience working with high school youth
- Experience in teaching or curriculum development
- Understanding of immigrant communities; a commitment to working with diverse populations; strong sense of social justice and youth empowerment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Self-motivated, independent, and team-oriented
- Proficient in Google Suite, MS Office, and social media platforms
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends occasionally
