Position Overview

We are excited to invite applications for the role of Women's Health Medical Assistant in Brooklyn. This position requires bilingual proficiency in Arabic and/or Spanish. The Medical Assistant will support healthcare providers and nursing staff in delivering quality patient care in an ambulatory setting, adhering to organizational policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Show respect and cultural awareness towards coworkers and patients.
  • Perform laboratory tests and complete specialty referral forms.
  • Transport and accompany patients as needed.
  • Identify and alert nursing staff to patients requiring urgent care.
  • Provide staff coverage at various FHC locations as requested.
  • Retrieve test results from computer systems and reference laboratories.
  • Complete patient forms such as WIC documentation.
  • Ensure encounter forms and prescriptions are complete.
  • Obtain vital signs and measure physical parameters (height, weight, head/chest circumference).
  • Plot pediatric growth charts and perform simple dressings.
  • Provide translation services as needed.
  • Coordinate supply requests for modules and sites.
  • Conduct EKG, audiovisual testing, and Holter monitor setup/removal.
  • Perform venous blood draws (phlebotomy).
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
  • Document all data collected and care provided accurately.
  • Maintain a supportive and sensitive attitude towards patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Keep treatment and utility rooms organized and ready for use.
  • Reinforce health education with patients and families.
  • Assist with clerical tasks relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Attend staff meetings and review/sign meeting minutes if unable to attend.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain competencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Must be bilingual in Arabic and/or Spanish.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, required at hire and maintained thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of staff and patients.
