Position Overview
We are excited to invite applications for the role of Women's Health Medical Assistant in Brooklyn. This position requires bilingual proficiency in Arabic and/or Spanish. The Medical Assistant will support healthcare providers and nursing staff in delivering quality patient care in an ambulatory setting, adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Show respect and cultural awareness towards coworkers and patients.
- Perform laboratory tests and complete specialty referral forms.
- Transport and accompany patients as needed.
- Identify and alert nursing staff to patients requiring urgent care.
- Provide staff coverage at various FHC locations as requested.
- Retrieve test results from computer systems and reference laboratories.
- Complete patient forms such as WIC documentation.
- Ensure encounter forms and prescriptions are complete.
- Obtain vital signs and measure physical parameters (height, weight, head/chest circumference).
- Plot pediatric growth charts and perform simple dressings.
- Provide translation services as needed.
- Coordinate supply requests for modules and sites.
- Conduct EKG, audiovisual testing, and Holter monitor setup/removal.
- Perform venous blood draws (phlebotomy).
- Respond appropriately to emergencies such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
- Document all data collected and care provided accurately.
- Maintain a supportive and sensitive attitude towards patients, families, and colleagues.
- Keep treatment and utility rooms organized and ready for use.
- Reinforce health education with patients and families.
- Assist with clerical tasks relevant to the area of assignment.
- Attend staff meetings and review/sign meeting minutes if unable to attend.
- Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain competencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Must be bilingual in Arabic and/or Spanish.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, required at hire and maintained thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of ambulatory care experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills with all levels of staff and patients.
