The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office (“BXDA”) is committed to ensuring public safety and justice for over 1.4 million residents. We focus on assisting crime victims while maintaining fairness to defendants, striving to balance corrective actions with the pursuit of justice. To advance this mission, we are seeking a dedicated Violence Response Advocate (Spanish-speaking) for the Crime Victims Assistance Bureau (CVAB). This role is vital in addressing the unique challenges faced by victims of violence, acting promptly to provide emotional and concrete support through a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach. Advocates will meet victims where they are—whether at hospitals, precincts, homes, or our office—to deliver essential services.

📝 Job Responsibilities

  • Engage with victims, families, and witnesses of homicides, non-fatal shootings, and other violent crimes, especially in the critical aftermath of incidents.
  • Provide immediate emotional support, psychological first aid, safety planning, and crisis resolution.
  • Meet with victims and their families at hospitals, precincts, homes, or in-office settings.
  • Coordinate with NYPD and On-Call Felony ADA’s to connect victims and witnesses with services.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups and assessments to monitor ongoing needs.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and organize educational presentations for staff and the community on victim needs and available resources.
  • Attend precinct roll call meetings to facilitate sensitivity training and strengthen community law enforcement relations.
  • Collaborate with programs addressing gun violence and related crimes.
  • Develop sustainable plans to help clients regain normalcy and promote safety.
  • Inform clients about the criminal justice process and accompany them to court if needed.
  • Assess safety requirements and partner with BXDA’s Witness Security Program for short-term safe housing solutions.
  • Work with the CVAB Housing Advocate to develop long-term, affordable, and safe housing options.
  • Intake victims, families, and witnesses to evaluate safety and resource needs.
  • Assist clients in completing victim compensation claims and other entitlements.
  • Refer clients to city agencies, private organizations, and onsite therapy services.
  • Collaborate with ADAs to ensure case needs are met effectively.

🎯 Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Bronx resident preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is essential.
  • Knowledge of Bronx neighborhoods is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with victims or survivors of violence.
  • Ability to navigate public transportation independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
