Position Overview

The Haitian Creole & French Medical VRI is responsible for conducting on-demand audio and video calls, supporting our LEP community and practitioners across sectors such as Healthcare, Government, Community, and Education.

Job Functions

• Provide effective video and audio interpreting sessions in a professional manner 🎥🎧
• Capture company-provided data during interpreting sessions when required ✍️
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies ⚙️
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting contexts 🛡️
• Show commitment to cultural sensitivity and working within diverse environments 🌍
• Respect and understand our LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences ❤️
• Possess a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting 🤝
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions 🕴️
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and politeness 🗣️
• Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol 🎯

Qualifications

• Fluent in both source and target languages (Haitian to English and vice versa) with strong verbal communication skills 💬
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to ensure accuracy 📝
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or hold a national certification ✅
• Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC) 📚
• Work environment compliant with HIPAA regulations 🏥
• Must be at least 18 years old age

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and write in the requested languages 📖
• Degrees or certifications in interpreting practices 🎓
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS 🏅
• Completion of accredited medical interpreting courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training) 🏫

Technical Requirements

• High-speed internet connection; cable or fiber optic preferred 🌐
• HIPAA compliant workspace with 4 walls and a lockable door 🚪
• Computer connected directly to the modem 💻
• Home office with a blue or green backdrop 🎨
• Quiet workspace free from distractions, pets, or outside noise 🔇
