Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time French instructor to join our Upper School team. This role involves teaching 1 to 3 classes, developing meaningful relationships with motivated students from diverse backgrounds, and collaborating with colleagues within the World Languages Department. The position remains open until filled.

Technology Integration & Professional Standards

Our one-to-one laptop program ensures technology plays an integral role across disciplines, with students engaging in electronic textbooks, Google Docs, Forms, and blended learning models. The successful candidate will utilize our learning management system Canvas and participate in the advisory program, aligning with professional standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • 📝 Prepare lesson materials, grade assignments, manage classroom environment, and provide student feedback.
  • 🎨 Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student needs and interests.
  • 🔍 Plan and lead activities that balance instruction, demonstration, and exploration, encouraging inquiry and investigation.
  • 👥 Instruct students individually and in groups using varied pedagogical approaches.
  • 🎯 Set clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; communicate these effectively to students.
  • 📊 Administer and evaluate tests and assignments to monitor student progress.
  • 🤝 Meet with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and resource needs.
  • 🤝 Collaborate with colleagues in program development, evaluation, and revision.
  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Oversee a group of advisory students, providing guidance on academics, social issues, and future planning, and liaising with parents.
  • 🏅 Lead at least one extracurricular activity, such as coaching a sport or academic team.
  • 🎓 Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and trainings to enhance skills.
  • ⚙️ Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 🎓 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or international equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 🗓️ Minimum of 5 years of experience in public or independent schools, with a strong background in curriculum and instruction.
  • 🌍 Commitment to promoting an inclusive environment that values diversity and supports differences.
  • 🔥 Passionate about French language and culture, with the ability to teach multiple levels and demonstrate mastery of current pedagogy.
  • 📝 Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • 🗄️ Strong organizational and presentation skills.
  • 🤝 Proven ability to work collaboratively within a department.
  • 🔍 Ability to pass a Jessica Lunsford Level II background check and drug test.

Certifications & Additional Requirements

  • 🩹 CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications can be obtained upon hiring.
